The simple chart below provides a handy reference point to see whether your investment portfolio is on track for retirement. 

To illustrate, let's consider a hypothetical married couple:

  • Current age is 45.

  • Household earned income of $200,000.

  • Target retirement investment portfolio: 200,000 x 4.9 = $980,000
